What you'll need
Bird coloring worksheets
Coloring tools
Two toilet paper rolls
Glue
Scissors
String or ribbon
Construction or tissue paper
Hole punch
Optional: decorating tools
How to make toilet paper binoculars
Attach the two up-cycled toilet paper rolls with glue. If you suspect they will get a lot of playtime, consider using a strong adhesive like hot glue. Hold together firmly while the glue dries.
Wrap the rolls in colored paper. Make sure you cover the entire surface. If you don't have colored paper, you can paint the toilet paper rolls.
Decorate your binoculars by adding leaves, animals, stickers, and more! The more creative, the better.
Punch or cut one hole on each of the outside edges. Measure and cut your string long enough to hang around your child's neck. Thread string through each hole and tie a knot.
Your binoculars are now ready to use!
Instructions
Print out the bird coloring worksheets.
Allow your child to color and decorate each bird. Once complete, cut out the birds.
How to play
Hide the Gull and Quail around the house.
Ready, set, find! Create incentives and additional rules to promote rule-following and cooperation. Depending on the ages of your child(ren), there are several ways you can incentivize finding the birds. For example, the child who finds the first bird gets to hide them next. If only one child is playing, let them hide the birds for your bird seeking adventure. Roleplay is a great way to develop social and emotional skills.
