Fall Activities - Apple Picking!
Apple picking is one of our families’ favorite fall activities, and luckily for us, there are some great apple orchards right here in Southern California! A short drive up the San Bernardino mountains to Oak Glen will transport you to a hidden trove of family-friendly fruit farms. Between Labor Day and Thanksgiving, you could easily make a day out of exploring the various orchards that offer U-pick apples, as well as other fun activities! Driving through those windy roads lined with fall leaves and seeing cute little chalkboard signs that point the way to apple orchards will give you all the fall feels and make you feel like you’re temporarily in New England (if you can ignore the late summer temperatures that still linger during this time). Read on for a few of the orchards that our families have enjoyed in Oak Glen:
This farm has an abundance of activities to keep your family busy. From U-pick apples, to farm animals, to wagon rides, to live music, and lots of food options, you could spend the bulk of your day here. If the crowds get to be too much, head over to the nearby botanical garden and trails for a relaxing stroll.
If you’re looking for a quieter, small farm experience, check out Willowbrook Apple Farm. They don’t have as many amenities as Los Rios, but the property is charming and perfect for younger children who like to have the range to just explore.
When you’re tired from all the exploring and need a jolt of sugar, head to Snow-Line Orchard for their fresh apple cider donuts—a perfect reward after a long day!
Apples are such a staple fruit in many households and are the basis for many delicious treats—apple pie, cider, dried apple chips, to name just a few. It’s such a great learning experience for kids to see where apples come from, have an opportunity to pick some, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Hopefully this post will inspire you to add apple picking to your list of fall activities this year!
