Normally, I would wait until the day after Thanksgiving to think about Christmas—you have to give Thanksgiving the spotlight it deserves, you know? But 2020 has been far from normal. So this year, Christmas begins early for me. I love to bake and cook and during the fall/winter holiday season, it’s my favorite time to be in the kitchen and share what I’ve made. I thought these cornflake Christmas wreaths are a really cute and fun way to get into the Christmas spirit.

If you like to get messy in the kitchen like I do, this is the project for you. Your hands may look like the Grinch while making this, but you can’t not feel happy putting these together. This recipe is meant for you to have fun and it’s foolproof.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

  • 2 cups of mini marshmallows

  • 1.5 teaspoons of green liquid food coloring

  • 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

  • 5 cups of cornflakes

  • Red mini M&Ms (or red hots if you prefer a little spice)

  • Twizzler Pull ‘n’ Peel

Equipment: Nonstick pan, parchment paper, spatula, cookie sheet or flat counter, nonstick vegetable spray (optional)

Directions

  1. Measure out all ingredients so you’re ready to go. Separate the red M&Ms. Create Twizzler bows by making an 8 shape with the ends out.

  2. Melt butter over low heat in nonstick pan.

  3. Add marshmallows and melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth (about 6 minutes).

  4. Remove the pan from the heat and mix in the food coloring and vanilla extract until well blended.

  5. Stir in the cornflakes to coat them well. Trust me, you’ll know when it’s all coated.

  6. Using your hands, get a handful of the cornflake mix and put on parchment paper. To make it easier, spray your hands with nonstick spray or rub some softened butter.

  7. Form each mound into a donut shape onto a parchment paper on your counter or a baking sheet. Make it as big as you want! Thin wreaths don’t hold up as well. Depending on how big you make them, you should be able to get around 12 wreaths.

  8. After forming the wreaths, add M&Ms in threes for holly and add a Twizzler bow, while still sticky.

    1. This is the perfect time for kids to help!

  9. To let them firm up, stick them in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

  10. Now for the best part, enjoy and share with your loved ones.
