Spring Break Fun

When the weather starts warming up and the flowers start blooming, we are more than ready for some spring break fun! As parents, we love spring break because it’s that perfect little pause where we get to enjoy some activities with our kids that we might not have had time for otherwise, but it’s not so long that we start running out of things to do. While a week isn’t that much time, you’ll still want some activity ideas in your back pocket to keep the boredom at bay. Read on for our recommendations!

Go on a scavenger hunt
Kids just love a good scavenger hunt, and who can blame them? Take this as a chance to keep those little minds busy and get them to run around a bit. Try this on a hike, at the beach, or just around your neighborhood! Check out the post Let’s Go on a Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt for a free printable that we’ve created.

Decorate eggs
Easter is coming up, so why not get ready for it by doing some egg decorating? This year, we’re going to mix it up a bit by trying out these Tie Dye Easter Eggs!

Get your garden started
Spring is the perfect time to start your garden so you’ll have food to harvest come summer and fall. We love starting this process by reading We Are the Gardeners by Joanna Gaines. It gets the kids so excited about gardening, and gives them an idea of what the process should look like. Take a day or two to plan out your garden, visit the garden store, and start planting! For some more inspiration, check out our past posts Our Favorite Spring-Inspired Books for Toddlers and Spring Gardening with Cat & Lucy.

Outdoor movie night
If you live somewhere that has “real” seasons, you might think we’re crazy for suggesting this as a spring activity. However, in Southern California, it can actually be warm enough around this time to hold a movie screening outside. Maybe just grab a few blankets just in case and cozy up for a relaxing night at home! We have some more ideas to make this activity special in the post Outdoor Movie Night

If you’re local to Southern California and want to get out of the house for a day or half-day outing, here are some ideas:

Carlsbad Flower Fields
Grab your camera and get ready to snap some great photos of your kids amongst rows and rows of flowers! There are 50 acres of ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields, as well as other family-friendly activities like a flower maze, and a wagon ride.

Irvine Park Railroad Easter Eggstravaganza
The kids always have a good time at the Irvine Park Railroad Easter egg hunt—one great aspect of the hunt here is that they are by reservation only and are broken down by age group, so little ones won’t be overwhelmed by crowds and rowdy big kids. The Eggstravaganza also features other seasonal activities like an Easter Bunny meet and greet, cookie decorating, and carnival games, as well as their usual offerings, like the hay wagon ride, train ride, and pony ride.

Underwood Family Farms’ Springtime on the Farm
This working farm has so much to offer for the little ones, especially during their special events. There is more than we can list here, but definitely check out the link above to see all the fun springtime activities they have planned!

We’re so excited to revisit some of our favorite spring break activities, as well as try out some new ones. Hoping this list inspires you and your family to get out and enjoy the sunshine!
