Woof! I Love My Pawrents
Did you know that the second Saturday in May is known as National Dog Mom’s Day? It was news to us too! But it makes total sense, as every dog mom knows that pups really are like (human) kids and are a true part of the family. National Dog Mom’s Day was actually founded to recognize and celebrate dog moms who do so much on a daily basis to care for their dogs. Just like raising our human children, it takes a lot to make sure your dog(s) are happy and healthy—doctor’s visits, sleepless nights, potty training—sound familiar? Of course, dogs can’t be counted on to make you a card or take you out to brunch, so it’s really more of a day to celebrate your special bond, while you plan some special treats and activities for the family (also familiar, right?). Here are some ideas for making the day special for you and your pup(s):
Whip Up Some Dog Treats
Making your own treats is a great way to show your love to your dog and give him/her the gift of health. You’ll know exactly what ingredients are in the treats, so you can let go of the guilt if you can’t resist those puppy dog eyes and offer them a few more! These Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats sound like something we’d want to snack on and are super highly-rated. If you’re looking to keep it simple, this resource has a lot of recipes for dog treats that require 5 ingredients or less.
Spend Some Time Outdoors
Try to do an outdoor activity together that fits your dog’s personality. If y’all are feeling social, head to your neighborhood dog park and meet some other dogs and their dog moms. If they don’t mind a workout, find a dog-friendly hiking trail and go exploring.
Document Your Love
Like with our kids, it can be all too easy to continuously snap pictures of them being adorable and forget to insert ourselves in the frame. Make an effort to take a picture WITH your dog(s) this year! And because we all love to see cute pups, if you upload them on social media, tag your post #DogMomsDay and #magicpaperstudios so we can see!
The bonds between dog moms and their dogs are so precious and deserve to be celebrated. We hope these ideas help make this year’s National Dog Mom’s Day a little more special!
